Meanwhile, Chris had the task of buying a "new" car. His old Subaru Impreza had enough mechanical problems it was no longer worth fixing. It didn't owe us anything, he had it 10 years and put a lot of hard miles on it. He found this beauty to replace her.
A Subaru Forrester, it looks and runs great, and I hope it will offer him miles of smiles.
In the evening, Chris cooked supper, one of Aimee's favorites, something he has been fixing for years, a recipe he originally found labeled, "double breaded pork chops with lemon dill sauce." Since then we have discovered this is basically schnitzel. He serves it over egg noodles, garnished with lemons and limes. It's a favorite.
Evans taught Aimee how to make mojito's. There was a lot of fresh mint and lime and rum and laughter.
I was not terribly involved in the meal preparation, but oh how I loved to watch Chris. He had music playing, and some of his very favorite people around him in the kitchen while he worked. I commented mid-cook, "You are in your element," and he agreed. There is not much more that man likes than cooking for people he loves. And we like eating the results!
We sat a long time at the table, talking and savoring every bit of the evening.
This morning I was awake early, and took care of the animals. When Aimee got up, Chris fried up some bacon and made a batch of pancakes.
He melts butter and serves it with a little brush to paint the cakes with. He heats the syrup, too. The whole thing is just yummy.
Aimee had told me she was looking for a small kitchen type table for her apartment. I had a sweet old table I thought might be just right for her. After breakfast we went out to the garage where a white-painted, gate-leg table was stashed. Aimee has a wee car, but we managed to wedge in not only the table, but three little dining chairs for her to use. Then she added her weekend bags, her freshly groomed dog...
and her sweet self. And off they went. It must have been a crowded ride home.
We spent the rest of the afternoon mowing lawns, weed whacking, digging in the gardens, running to the feed store, grabbing lunch out, and enjoying the day.
